You were, you are, or you want to be Catholic - Welcome Home!

N.B.: Sunday homilies are often recorded more than once because preaching without notes allows more creativity and interesting variations in details from one homily to the next.

Jesus invites us to enter into the desert of our own poverty, sinfulness, and fear, and the deserts of human life and society - where He shows himself to be with us - as I accept Jesus to carry my sins and suffering, He lifts me up to share in his resurrection and draws me into his Easter joy.

4e d'une série de 4: Alliance - 4th in a series of 4: Covenant

Week 4 wraps up our 4-week series of reflections on Jesus' call to follow Him and our ongoing response to Him and our development as Disciples of Jesus and Stewards of Creation.

100130 1700 - - -  100131 0900 - - -             et en français: 100131 1045                  - - - 100131 1230

The intimate friendship with God and with each other lost by Adam and Eve caused the divine love in them to be replaced by fears.... The Father sent us Jesus to free us from fear but we are daunted by his perfect love, intimidated when we compare ourselves with others, and still fearful when facing opposition, indifference, persecution. These past three weeks we have been reflecting on how to make more room for Jesus in our lives, how to let gratitude to God motivate our living, prayer, and putting our time and talent at the service of others. A response to the 3rd week would be to examine how close to the biblical ideal of 10% my / our total giving to God, charities, and people in need comes, and see what steps I / we can freely take to be more generous and practice putting more trust in divine providence for everything. This week, we reflect: Do I admire Jesus enough, do I trust Him enough to follow Him? I can't be willing to follow Him wherever He will lead me unless I can know within me that He loves me, cares about me. Like Jeremiah, I may feel inadequate to follow Him, but like the Psalmist I can remember that God is ever present, and for me to pray is simply to wake up and remember the God who is present, and visit with Him, with the Father, with Jesus his Son, with the Holy Spirit. It's good that I do good things and participate in life and in my family, but it's even better when I do all those things with the inspiration and power of the love of God within me. As Mary said at Cana to the attendants, so she says to us: "Do whatever He tells you."

We rejoice in the radiance of Jesus' Birth - nous sommes joyeux dans la lumineuse Nativité de Jésus

The Baptism of the Lord ends the Christmas Season, but at all the Masses January 30-31 we will observe the Presentation of the Lord (February 2nd), gather with our children around the Manger and give thanks to the Father for sending his divine Light into the world in Jesus. This week we witness a convergence of three wondrous gifts the Lord offers us: the Magi who with incredible generosity and gratitude spared no effort, expense, and trouble to find the Son of God; Jesus, who in magnificent freedom stands in the water of the Jordan before his cousin John, ready to face anything; and a reluctant Jesus at Cana who causes untold joy to erupt as He grants his Mother Mary's request and transforms 180 gallons of water into an incredible heavenly wine, a glimpse of the gift of his own precious Blood He will one day pour out so we might live. As we continue to enjoy these 40 days in the radiance of Christmas and Epiphany, our Parish Pastoral Team invites us to enter into our 3rd annual 4-week reflection series on "Disciples of Jesus and Stewards of Creation". Today our theme is discipleship. Jesus has come to comfort God's People and the Psalmist invites us to proclaim to everyone the wonders God does for his People. Jesus beckons us to follow Him and live a life of discipline focused on doing good and to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit within us to tell others about the Father's love. The Father wants us to hear the words He addressed to Jesus in the Jordan as also applicable to us his children.

4e dimanche de l'Avent  - 4th Sunday in Advent    top of page

091219 1700 & 091220 0900 & 1230 Homily by Deacon Brian Cordeiro -- God blesses us in so many ways through the women in our lives. Elizabeth and Mary are models for us of how to put all our trust in God at all ages, how to let God be our fullness in life, and how to act on our concern for others by being there for them in love.        Question of the week:
How can you bring Jesus, God amongst us, into your life and the life of at least one person that you know?

091218 Israel was shocked when the Temple of God was violated. Why did God allow this? Joseph was shocked when he noticed that Mary was visibly pregnant, though they had not come together. Why did Mary allow this to happen? We too ask these questions of God. In Advent the Lord tells us that the story is not complete, that He is leading us into the experience of his salvation, providing we put our trust in Him and allow Him to lead us through the events of life.

English Israel's greatest suffering was to see the Temple of God violated by strangers, as though God was powerless to act. They learned that God is the only true god and God of the universe. The greatest suffering for a Christian is to see a Christian or any human being violated. Like the Jews we must learn that God acts, but not yet with such glory as to leave no doubts. He wants us to trust in Him and to put our faith in Him.

The Lord's look is a scrutiny of love that like a surgeon's scalpel cuts and then heals - though it hurts at first it later brings joy. During Advent will we allow the Lord to penetrate us deeply with his loving gaze?

091206 1230 In Advent we anticipate Christmas to celebrate Jesus' coming, but God is always present, never absent. So what's going on? Obstacles to our union with God are around us but also within us. Jesus calls us to be awake and open to the Holy Spirit drawing our attention to obstacles we can remove with his help. Jesus is ever coming to us, to me, to make himself at home with his Father in me and help me know and obey the Father's will as He does Himself. He calls children to obey their parents and parents to be kind to their children. Jesus helps us love his Father and our Father in Heaven.

091204 In Advent the blind call us to recognize how we can be blind to God's presence and action in our lives and in the world, and ask Jesus to restore our sight, to remove all that hinders us from welcoming Jesus and the love of his Father into every aspect of our lives.

091202 It is moving to see Jesus really caring about the people following Him. To have a real sense that Jesus is looking at us we need to wait a little longer when we pray, after we've finished our active prayers, just visiting with God who is always there, and when He decides, He allows us to feel something of his presence.

091127 In the face of scary prophetic statements about the end of the world, the Lord tells us not to be overly impressed by them or distracted from what is essential. Our life on Earth is brief and God asks us to be conscious of our conduct and to put our trust in Him, to look for his presence among us and his will for us. He calls us to live as his children, with all our trust in Jesus his divine Son, who reveals the Father to us and offers us his love. It is not our part to resolve the world's problems, but to do our part, and to entrust their outcome to the Lord, who makes life, justice, peace, and love possible.

091125 Christian witness - it's not our concern to try to persuade or change those whose faith or practice preoccupy us - that's God's part; Jesus is the Saviour, not you or me. Our part, says Jesus, is to take every opportunity to joyfully give an account of the hope He has given us and boldly witness to the great love and penetrating truth God has revealed in Jesus.

091122 1230 Christ the King - Our liturgical year ends this week and begins anew with Advent. In the 3 lectionary years - ABC - we are shown Jesus returning in glory at the end of time on clouds to gather before Him every human being that has ever lived for the judgement as a prelude to eternal life. Last year (A) we say Jesus as the Good Shepherd, who looks after his sheep and at the end of time will judge us as a shepherd separates sheep from goats "I was hungry and you gave me to eat.... etc." Next year (C) we'll see Jesus descended from King David and crucified on a cross, where He was attentive to the "good thief" who felt sorry for Him and asked to be remembered in his Kingdom. Today we see Jesus standing face to face with Pilate and taking interest in him enough to chat with him. This year, many loved ones and parishioners have had this experience because they died and are now with God. What will it be like to find ourselves face to face with Jesus, as happens for every single human being at the moment of death, whether they know Jesus or believe in Him or not? (Fr Gilles shares three stories of people he has known that give us glimpses of what it is like to face Jesus.... Maryann.... Steve.... Pete the musician....) Today Jesus shows us He is a King interested in every single person and gives each one a chance to open up to Him. He gave Judas a chance for 3 years, but he didn't, refused to make room for Jesus and his way of doing things. Jesus gave the same chance to the 11 other apostles and women and men disciples, who opened up to Him and made room for Him and the Father's will. This is a moment of grace Jesus offers us to open up to Him.

Today we see Jesus standing face to face with Pilate and taking interest in him enough to chat with him. What will it be like to come face to face with Jesus, as happens for every single human being at the moment of death, whether they know Jesus or believe in Him or not? 091120 We celebrate our annual St Luke Feast Day by hosting a "Ministering to Ministers Day of Recollection" on the nearest Saturday to October 18th for the ongoing faith formation of all who serve through involvement and volunteerism. In addition, now we will also have the annual anniversary of the Consecration of our Church and Altar. Given our church architecture and call to follow Jesus, we must combine two important functions of a lively community of faith in the one space we have: (1) extending lively hospitality and greeting one another with mutual love, and (2) coming prayerfully into the Real Presence of Jesus, ever waiting for us in the Tabernacle. So, in order to pray amid the happy sounds of greeting, the cooing or complaining of infants, and delightful chatter of youth, we do as Mother Teresa taught her novices and learn to "make silence within us"; otherwise insisting on silence around us will do us no lasting good. To make silence within, we must humbly acknowledge to the Lord all the noise we carry in our minds, hearts, and spirits, and humbly beg Him to bring his holy silence within us through the power of the Holy Spirit, Lord and Giver of Life! "O my Jesus, I trust in You!"

Rite: Commission d'Accompagnateurs Spirituels à Domicile.

091114 1700 One reason war and disaster stories fascinate us is to see how these challenges reveal human weaknesses but also cause many to rise to the occasion and do what is noble and courageous. In answer to his disciples' questions Jesus evoked the end of time and of the world when He will return in glory. He told them they would see these things in their lifetime, but we are still here. Jesus means that the world in effect ends for us when we leave it and die. Jesus offered his life so we might be forgiven, and this becomes really effective for us when we are touched personally or become embarrassed by the graciousness with which Jesus endured our sins imposed on Him. Only then do we begin to really change. On Calvary those who refused to be embarrassed rejected the truth and love of God revealed in Jesus and left. Those who let themselves be touched remained and stood in awe of Jesus. As we let Jesus touch our lives, we become instruments He is then free to use to touch others. 091108 1230 God looks after widows and orphans, granting them what they need to survive, but not to become rich. We who do become well off can come to trust only in ourselves and can become hardened to others. Disappointment and hurt can make it difficult for us to go on putting our trust in others. It's very painful for children who want to trust when parents and we around them go into panic when things don't go well. God is ever ready to restore our ability to trust in Him. Do I put my faith in God on condition that He grant me my requests, or do I put all my faith in God as a child puts all its trust in its parent(s)? Am I joyful?

091108 0900 Do I put my faith in God on condition that He grant me my requests, or do I put all my faith in God as a child? Children spontaneously put all their trust in parents and God and suffer when this trust is not also visible in their parents and in all of us, when we panic and behave as though we rely only on our own efforts. We can let the burden of responsibility to provide for our families and our fear of inadequacy prevent us from putting our trust in God. Our suffering when all does not go well is also God's suffering because so many people do not cooperate with God's plan for our happiness. In our choice to trust in God we can enjoy the joy and cheerfulness and innocence of children and youth. We have such saints among us, child like hearts trusting in God, and you carry the rest of us. Thanks.

091101 1230 As the Apostle says, Jesus wants us to be children of God in his Kingdom. He wants us to have more than the children of this world, who are limited by what they can see. In his teaching that we generally call the Beatitudes, Jesus reflects with us on life in a way that no one else ever has. What more does it bring us, what difference does it make to be children of God? People who don't know God or trust in Him and are simply children of this world alone can enjoy life, have the satisfaction of participating, and desire to make the world a better place. In addition, as children of God facing the difficult, frightening, unattractive circumstances of life, our trust in God opens new possibilities that lead into the great adventure of life. Check it out!

091101 0900 I address this homily to all, and in particular to our youth. Some do extreme sports and push to the edge of death in order to feel alive. The greatest adventure for human beings, Jesus says, is to live life fully, all of it. Like children of this world, who have as their only perspective this world and what we see, we can enjoy life, have the satisfaction of participating in our life, and seek to make our contribution to the world. As children of God, we have a lot more. Jesus opens our spirit to possibilities where the human spirit is generally afraid to go. In what we call the Beatitudes Jesus reflects with us on aspects of life we find at first uninteresting, frightening, painful, or whatever, but on taking a closer look, actually open up onto the great adventure of life. Check it out!

091031 1700 As Jesus says, if I only seek my own life I must inevitably lose it, but if I lose my life for his sake, I will find it. For children of God in his Kingdom, following Jesus is possible. What misery for children of this world stuck on wanting God to answer in ways they expect; we may not see his answer if we only have eyes to see what we expect. Here follows a contemporary interpretation of the Beatitudes Jesus offers us in terms of our own experience. Check it out!

091025 1230 Our hope isn't in our strength or ability but in the Lord. In the face of scandal, we must take our responsibilities and face it. God's ways are bigger than ours, his thoughts higher. Jesus loves and trusts us and shares with us his anguish at the evil done to others, especially the innocent. It's good that we want to make the world better and do our best, but it's not enough. Jesus wants us to work in partnership with Him. That's why the consecration of our church was so beautiful. All together around our Archbishop, Jesus manifests how beautiful we are in his love, He calls us his Bride, the Church. Life tests us, and like the bishop caught with child porn on his laptop, we can also get lost if we stop cultivating our inner life, our relationships: friendships, marriage, ordained ministry. If we don't let God reach us with his love, He has no choice but to reach us with the truth, with stronger medicine, like parents to their children: This can be fun and easy or it can be difficult. It's up to you. We are better, stronger, together and in God. Jesus asks us to bring to the Altar all our anguish, pain, hurt, and disappointment, as He brought his to the cross, and to offer it all to the Father, along with all the victims of abuse and all those who abuse them. Jesus calls men to become his priests and allow Him to go on offering Himself as Eucharist for future generations. Who will answer his call? Pray for our priests in this year of priests. - Creed etc.

Voici la suite de cette Messe.... 091018 English Homiletic Reflection: Now consecrated, our Church with its Altar is beautiful as a Bride prepared for her Husband, Jesus who loves us all together as his Bride. We are the living stones of his Church. We carry Him within us, Jesus Light of the world. He invites us to keep our eyes fixed on Him so as to walk with Him on the path He has opened for us. We live with one foot on Earth and the other in Heaven, not wanting only what has value here below, but rather all that God wants for us. Example: how I pray for Papa.

091011 1230 As I asked the children earlier, we can forget to say thank you, and go through periods like that. I did, and it's a miserable time. So what Good News is the Lord offering us today? Wisdom shines on us with attractive beauty, a radiance of the fullness that is in God, radiating in the beauty, harmony, and logic of Creation, God shining all over the place. The rich young man sees this beauty and goodness shining on Jesus and sees the Apostles have it and he wants it. The problem is that from infancy he has been used to owning things and he thinks this is just one more thing he can have. Jesus sees the good desire he has and loves him and welcomes him to join them. What Jesus is bringing is so big that he must leave everything else behind like Peter and the others did to make room for it. The young man is shocked, and the Gospel doesn't say whether he got over it or not, because the Lord wants us to see ourselves as that young man. All of us, women and men, can ask "How am I going to respond to Jesus?" All kinds of things can get us stuck and prevent us from welcoming the fullness of life Jesus offers us. Jesus also said we need the heart of a child to enter the Kingdom of God: the child knows it is poor and totally dependent on Mom and Dad and trusts them completely, taking delight in that bond of dependence and trust. Those are the qualities we need to enter the Kingdom of God. Children have it but what happens to them? We have to grow up, get a life, acquire learning, skills, and a trade or profession so we can put our hands on the world and work and contribute to it. Claude Ryan, a devout Catholic Christian and fine politician, often said one of the most neglected yet noble Catholic Christian vocations is to politics, to political office. It's an incredible act of courage and generosity to put our hands, heart, and mind on society to serve others. We are called to do that, to take our place in the world, but as we do we can become so learned, competent, insightful in understanding what's going on in the world that we can rely excessively on our own views and shut out others and even God. We lose the child's willingness to trust and Jesus speaks to that today. Peter says he and the others did leave everything behind to follow Jesus and he is right. They did and Jesus says they are already enjoying their reward by living in the Kingdom. Around 1200 A.D. 1 out of 4 people in Europe were in monasteries of men or women or were priests, and 1/4 to 1/3 of the geography of Europe belonged to religious orders and dioceses in the Church. Like Francis of Assisi and Dominic, people wanted to follow Jesus and found this to be a great way to do it, and they got closer to God. American mother and professional Kathleen Chesto said young parents leave everything behind to start a family: going into debt, getting a family vehicle instead of the sporty one, becoming servants to their children for 20 to 30 years. We can still get stuck, so full of what we're doing or preoccupied that we are no longer receptive. Jesus offers us today an opportunity to step back and ask "Am I enjoying the freedom of the children of God, aware of my poverty and dependence and delighted to put all my trust in God, or am I stuck?" Am I stuck in my misery or pain or worries? We can prefer our habits, things... if there is anyone in Hell it's by choice... we can prefer to cling to what is familiar, even misery, rather than accept to let the light of God shine on us. We can run away by being with people, afraid to look inside and find there's nothing there. It's not true. Jesus offers us the joy to know that God dwells with us inside and we have nothing to fear. It doesn't matter to Jesus that we are broken, poor, or fragile, or in pain or grieving, whatever we're going through. Jesus is delighted to dwell with us with his Father and the Holy Spirit, and they make us incredibly rich. Jesus calls us to have companions on our journey. 091011 0900 Sometimes we can forget to say thank you. I did, and it's a miserable time. What then is the Good News the Lord offers us today? Difficult people can provoke us to go further into the Kingdom of God. Like children we need to realize our poverty and dependence and accept to trust completely in God to enter the joy of the Kingdom of God. As in God the love of husband and wife creates something new, a "we" which in time can become a new person, each child born of their love. It's not perfect, so we struggle and sometimes cry out to the Lord "How long?" Wisdom in God shines in our darkness and the Word of God like a sharp two-edged sword penetrating our depths with light and shows us what happens to the innocence of the child in us that we need to enter the Kingdom.  It is good and necessary for us to grow, learn, acquire competence and skill, so we can put our hands on the world and work with God to cultivate the world and make it better, but as we become full of ideas and experience we can get stuck and rely too much on ourselves and our opinions, forget our poverty and dependence, and leave no room for others or for God, losing our innocence and going on our own, outside the Kingdom of God. Claude Ryan, a devout Catholic Christian and fine politician, often said one of the most neglected yet noble Catholic Christian vocations is to politics, to political office, where one can put one's hands on society and work to make it better for others. This requires heroism and generosity. The rich young man freaks out when Jesus answers him by calling him to leave everything behind and follow him; yet Peter and the others did just that. Around 1200 A.D. 1 out of 4 people in Europe were monks, nuns, and priests, and 1/4 to 1/3 of the geography of Europe belonged to religious orders and dioceses in the Church. People wanted to follow Jesus and found this to be a great way to do it, and they got closer to God. American mother and professional Kathleen Chesto said young parents leave everything behind to start a family: going into debt, getting a family vehicle instead of the sporty one, becoming servants to their children for 20 to 30 years. Still, we can get stuck on interior stuff, like Peter resisting Jesus when He talks about his approaching death. We can get stuck on personality traits, bad habits, our pleasures, and even prefer our misery to the company of others in the Kingdom. If any go to Hell it is by their own choice, preferring to hold onto their sins or misery. We need others to get unstuck, which is why our youth enjoy being together so much, why there are so many opportunities to study the Word of God and share experiences and faith offered this year. Check out the Catholic times September issue Supplement on Faith Formation. We can also get stuck running away from our inner self, afraid to look inside and find there's nothing there. It's not true because God dwells with us inside and we have nothing to fear. Jesus calls us to have companions on our journey.

091003 1700 We can freak out at Jesus' answer to the question about divorce because of our many sad experiences. Also related are priests leaving the ministry, the small but terrible minority of priests who abuse the innocent and vulnerable, the debate over celibacy for priests, and the shockingly frequent but hidden abuse of spouses and children by those responsible to love and care for them. God's plan from even before the creation of Adam and Eve was for our happiness. The first humans enjoyed a familiarity with and power over the creatures, which we haven't completely lost. Today we asked God to bless all your pets and you. We see in Adam and Eve our equal dignity and complementarity. Jesus defines adultery not as dirty sex but an offense against one's spouse, taking something away from them to give it to a third party. God calls us to love our spouse forever with an exclusive love, and He calls priests to love the Bride of Christ, the Church, forever with an exclusive love like that of Jesus the Bridegroom. God the Father made us through the Divine Word his Son in the Holy Spirit. He knows that one love is enough to fill and expand our heart infinitely, providing we follow his guidance. Jesus gives us the key to open, understand, and follow the path He opened for us by walking in it first ahead of us. "Let the little children come to me.... whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it." What is it about a little child that is such a powerful key to let us enter the Kingdom of God? Poverty... awareness of complete dependence; trust... willingness to fully and completely trust in Mom, Dad, God; innocence... incapable of doing harm; joy... completely open to notice, receive, and enjoy life, love, others, and God. It all begins around 8 months of age, the psychological birth, when the infant becomes capable and willing to choose one person as the preferred care giver, and "falls in love" with Mommy, or Daddy, or the Nanny, or whoever is seen as steady, warm, kind, and reliable. Imagine the harm that happens when this first love affair is hindered, interrupted, or damaged... simply by an absence by illness or hospitalization of the care giver, by a change through divorce, death, or even day care, or by a trauma through accident, violence, or war. This is what the original sin is, that each of us from the moment of our conception have been wrinkled, damaged, wounded by the evils and limitations of goodness all around us, and by the sins of others. All of us have entered into a life of love that is not perfect, except Mary, who through the grace of Immaculate Conception was preserved in a perfect state of love by God in anticipation that she would accept to conceive and bear his Divine Son as the human whom she was to name Jesus. So then, how exactly does God save the rest of us? We are reminded today that it is by suffering. Given the condition of the world, and God's gift of freedom to us, there can be no magic solution to the problem of evil in the world, because we are constantly, all over the world, choosing to neglect good and do evil. God has chosen to honor his gift of our freedom and instead to save us by transformation through struggle and suffering and in this way complete our apprenticeship to love and our restore our responsible participation in God's work of Creation in tending the garden and cultivating people and relationships. The power of God is being channelled through the suffering Jesus accepted to share from us in an act of perfect love for us; so it is Jesus' suffering which forgives and reconciles us and heals us, and our own suffering becomes the price we must pay for ongoing love in a broken world.

091002 We have trouble imagining Angels.... Each is granted a Guardian Angel at conception. At Baptism and Confirmation we became better able to pick up and follow our Angel's guidance. Had Adam and Eve not sinned, we would be much more like Jesus, even able to walk on water if necessary; certainly death would be a joyous moment and come only after a much longer life. In our condition of mortal sin we are inclined to separate from God and get caught in traps of darkness. Our Angel is ever helping us to get up, turn from the darkness, and step toward God. Our part is to ever cultivate the desire to change and the Lord lifts us up in the power of his love, in the Holy Spirit, in Jesus to come to the Father. Countless angels will now join us around Jesus at the Altar.

090919 1700 We have a desire for abundance of life; yet when exaggerated this desire leads to all the troubles we see in the world. God's solution is to call us to enrol again each year and everyday in the School of Jesus, to learn more about God and the life He offers us. This learning goes hand in hand with experiencing God ourselves in daily life and in the Sunday Assembly. Jesus reveals to us the Father and with them we experience their love, the Holy Spirit. God opens the door to each of us today. After Mass come to the Hall and check out the learning opportunities God gives us here at St Luke.

090913 0900 When one is called to give their life for God He grants a remarkable grace of enthusiasm for it. Mostly to carry our cross and follow Jesus means to accept to live life fully - not picking and choosing - all of it, the good and the bad, joy and sorrow, success and failure, vigor and weakness, pleasure and pain. Then Jesus reveals the Father to us and the Holy Spirit dwells in us and lifts us up, and our prayers are answered. The Father saved Jesus when He prayed, not from dying but from failure inside himself, giving Him strength to remain true to Himself to the end, when He not only forgave and asked the Father to forgive those who tortured Him, but even excused them: "for they know not what they do." Even that is possible when we are in God. We have two choices in life: to stay home on little thrones putting ourselves above others with thoughts and opinions about everything and everyone else, or we can give that up and come to Church every Sunday to worship the Lord as God; then I don't have to carry the world on my shoulders and be a god because I worship Jesus as my Lord and He sets me free to be loved and to love as He does. 090913 12:30 We tend not to be ambitious to give our lives for our faith, but tens of thousands all over the world do, and when the time comes God gives them a grace of enthusiasm to carry them through it. Still, we cannot be disciples, Christians, without carrying our cross behind Jesus. First we come to Jesus, and as we try to know Him and ponder his words, He reveals the Father to us, and in time the love between them, the Holy Spirit dwells in us and fills us, and we become less focused on ourselves and more sensitive to others around us, more awake to what is happening all around us. I have two choices every day, every week. I can stay home with my thoughts and opinions about everything and everyone else like on a throne and push God out of the way, or when I catch myself doing that, I can get off my little throne and every Sunday come to Church with other Christians and worship the Lord as the true God and as my Lord, and let Him carry the burden of the world on his shoulders, as He did on the cross. Then I can put his mind and will above mine, which is a struggle, which is why Jesus suffered, putting these things to death in himself so we, I could put them to death in myself and be free to live life fully. This is what the Christian life is about: accepting to walk with Jesus and do as He did. The abundance of life the Father offers us puts Him in his Son Jesus at the center of our lives, and the Holy Spirit attracts us to Church. When I was little, the Holy Spirit used my parents to push/pull me to Church, until I could decide freely on my own to come worship the Lord and put Him first in my life, and then be free to welcome the abundance of life the Father offers us, and be open to all of life, not just all the good stuff, but even the difficult stuff. In the challenge of everyday life Jesus asks us to trust Him that we can only have the abundance by welcoming all of life with all our trust in Him and the Father's love.   090913 12:30 Introduction to the Our Father

090830 0900 “How is your heart doing today?” or aligning our hearts to that of Jesus, by Brian Cordeiro, Diaconate Candidate 090830 1230 In finding fault with others we can avoid facing our own faults as the Pharisees criticized Jesus and wouldn't love Him. My only defence is to accuse myself, admit my faults, at night ask God to forgive me and regularly confess to Jesus through the priests He sends. Joy comes when we admit every day that all good things come from God. Peace dwells in us when we accept we cannot change others or the world, but set our will to live more fully with God's guidance, power, and love, accepting to live through everything that comes, even difficult and painful things, with trust in God.

090823 0900 God sent his Son into the world so that we might come to know and love Him. Those that left Jesus didn't know Him enough to love Him. Being intimate is draining - we eat up those we love and are eaten up by those who love us - we are both nourished and drained by others. Paul is enthralled by Jesus' extreme love for us - He is a Marriage of God with us - but in our experience of Marriage it's hard to overcome our selfishness. When we forget ourselves and seek the good of the other, plunge into the other for love of them without any thought of getting anything back; that is already Heaven, squandering our life extravagantly for those we love, like Jesus. We can't do it, but Jesus nourishes us by his love and makes us capable of love like his. 090823 1615  - We doubt and ask, "Lord, this Host, this Wine in the Chalice, is it really You?" But God the Father continues to offer us Jesus so He might become part of our life and we might get to know and love Him. We are impressed by movies, but a 2 hour movie of your life after 60 years could only take 3 seconds a day of your life, only little dots. At your age I only saw my grandparents once a month or less, little dots, yet I knew them and loved them. It's like that with God. We don't feel close to God very often... only feel God's love for little moments, little dots.... but we come to know and love Him. We can't solve the world's problems, but when we say a good word, smile, forgive, or help someone, or send help to the poor... we are CIA - agents of hope!

090821 St Pius X 090822 1700 Disciples left Jesus - they didn't really know Him and so love Him, just as people left God after arriving in the Promised Land. Our greatest doubts are not "Is the Holy Eucharist really the Body and Blood of the Risen Christ, truly living?" but "Do I really want to get that close to Jesus as to know Him personally and love Him?" Paul's words to the Ephesians on wives and husbands is misunderstood too. It's not about domination or selfishness, which happens too often today, but about being able and willing to forget myself in loving the other, like Jesus loves me.

Jesus wants not just a part of us but He wants to become part of our whole life....   090816 1230 Communion with Jesus does not "work" like what we expect magic might be like; we are meeting someone who is coming to us again and again.

090328 1700 God offers every human person to know Him personally and this happens primarily through the forgiveness of our sins - Jesus offers us to learn obedience through Him as he humanly learned obedience to his Father's will. The scandal of the cross of Jesus is the length to which Jesus went to uncover for us to see the true love of God for us. This love can bear fruit in us by our willingness to let go of fear and offer our life repeatedly for others until the end as a gift of love as Jesus did. 090328 1700 Presentation of the Creed - Third Scrutiny - Anointing with the Oil of Catechumens.

090327 God our Father wants every human being to be, to become just and have the joy to see God and others as they are. To protect ourselves from hurt we develop around our hearts a crust that makes us less sensitive to others and to God. Throughout the Bible we see how God desires to shatter that crust hardening hearts to restore the innocence of our souls. Then once again our hearts become sensitive and vulnerable, able to be touched by God and transformed.

090324 Mary's willingness to trust in God and say "Yes" to his will is an example for us to respond to the Lord's call. One way we do is to go to the priest to meet Jesus in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. Were we to accept to be born again in the slums of the third world and leave everything we have and are behind, we would have a glimpse of what it was like for the Son of God to come among us out of faith and love.

However, when it is the Word of God which challenges and disturbs, I may not apologize for that. We cannot understand the "wrath of God" from a place of fear, but only of love. Fear is darkness, and love is light. Jesus comes into our darkness to shine his light and lead us out. Jesus wants to bring about in our lives what the Father did for Him when He walked the Earth. Our part is to surrender to his leading and guiding us all week and it begins here. 090322 1230 Father and Pastor apologizes for words, sharing, or images that may have offended. 090320 Lent is a season that brings us joy, but this joy usually comes after the Word of God breaks open our hearts, cracks the armour we develop to keep ourselves from being hurt, and gives us to see ourselves as we are and to weep for ourselves and for others. Then his grace and love penetrate our heart through the cracks in our armour opened up by God's love.
090314 1700 Please forgive me if my choice of words or images shocked or disturbed you. However, when it is the Word of God which challenges and disturbs, I may not apologize for that. When we take the time to read below the surface of the 10 commandments, which seem harsh, we find God loves us so much He is jealous for us and our good; as any good parent because of intense love is jealous for the good, safety, and well being of their children. God wants a close and personal relationship with each of us; only then can we enjoy full happiness, peace, and love. At the Altar the Lord carries us as we offer ourselves to the Father with Him; then nourishes and comforts us. 090315 1045  Pardonnez-moi si mon choix de mots ou images vous ait choqué ou heurté.

090313 Hagar considered only her own advantage, and the descendants of her son are shown in the passage as merchants ready for any business to turn a profit, even slavery. The sons of Jacob are expected by God to show the same heart as Abraham to discern good from evil and to be sensitive to love and honor God, but they have become selfish and careless, jealous of their youngest brother and inconsiderate of their father's old age. It is a story about us. We needn't look any further to explain the origin of all the troubles in the world. All external troubles and inhumanity to others originate in the human heart. In light of the tragic drama of humanity, let us bring to the Altar all of humanity and offer them to God our Father with Jesus, and ourselves to do his will.

090310 Why we call our priests "father" when Jesus said to call no one "father" but our Father in Heaven. Lent is a good time to weep at becoming aware of how far short of God's love we fall. 090311 We are like prophets when the world's trouble and rejection of God cause us pain. Jesus calls this drinking from his cup of suffering which comes back in Gethsemane. We endure because the Lord is good to us. We do it for Him.

090308 0900 How could God ask Abraham to stab and burn his only son Isaac? How can God expect us to trust in Him when we don't understand what's happening to us? What did Jesus give Saul to change him into Paul? How can Abraham and Paul help us in our walk of faith with Jesus? 090308 1230 How could God ask Abraham to stab and burn his only son Isaac? How can God expect us to trust in Him when we don't understand what's happening to us? What did Jesus give Saul to change him into Paul? How can Abraham and Paul help us in our walk of faith with Jesus?

090304 God is not bothered by our sin as much as by our refusal to repent - notre refus de nous repentir choque le Bon Dieu plus que notre péché. Jesus wants to make of us as the Father made of Him a yeast to influence all of humanity towards heartfelt repentance and openness to God and make the Good News happen again. 090306 If God forced us to see our soul as it is, who could endure it? Even worse if God revealed our soul to others. It would be cruel. God doesn't expose our soul, though we sometimes expose others. God hovers over us like an anxious mother or father, eager for us to grow. Life provokes us and we discover what lies hidden in our heart, even evil things. Lent reminds us to confess our sins and ask God to weed our heart and make it good like his.

090228 1700 We are shocked, outraged by the violence of the God of the Old Testament - how can it be the same God as Jesus Christ? But then who am I to judge God? How we can begin to understand God's ways. Lent - Jesus invites us to walk with Him into the desert of our lives and face the truth about ourselves, others, the world, and God....

090227 Jesus calls Himself the Bridegroom because He looks upon us, his Church, his assembly of disciples, as his Bride. As in the Old Testament God called his people his Bride who was all too often unfaithful; now Jesus shows that God holds the relationship of husband and wife in such high regard because in their unselfish, self-sacrificing love and mutual care - especially when they are fruitful in children - God sees Himself most perfectly reflected. Jesus fully expects us his disciples to fast so that we might repent of the discrepancies between our high calling to love and the sad reality of our sinfulness. Lent is a sad time in our willingness to regret and turn away from our sins but it is a holy time of joy because the Lord is eager to forgive and renew us.

090225 0900 Jesus encourages us to fast for our humanity to be renewed, to pray and connect more deeply with God, and to give alms to renew our relations with others. 090224 Jesus catches his apostles disputing and rather than scold them He takes the good desire underneath their pettiness and elevates them higher. Jesus is a wonderful role model for parents and for all of us to see how to build one another up rather than criticize or tear down.

4th Sunday in a series of 4: stewardship of treasure and covenant

The world organizes human business by giving the priority to profit, even to the detriment of life and of people; such that life itself and human beings are reduced to simple commodities to be bartered. For his part, the Creator values life and human persons above everything and provides the Earth with an extravagant abundance of goods given as a heritage in equal measure to all of humanity. He leaves us free to take on the stewardship of it all for the common good and for his glory.

3rd Sunday in a series of 4: stewardship of talent

The world would have us believe that talent is my personal possession and resource, because worldly interests want to exploit my talent and suck me dry; whereas God has given me talent as an opportunity to discover and enter into relation with the world of creatures, other living things, and other persons.

081225 0900  God the Father gives us Jesus that we might come to know Him and come to know ourselves from within, not just by what others reflect back to us. We learn from Jesus how to live more as God's children and truly become his sons and daughters. God is always present to us but can't; so Jesus shows us how, fills us with the vitality of God, and sends us to carry the radiance of God's love and peace into the world around us, one person at a time. Jesus conceals the intensity of God yet reveals Him to us and teaches us to reverence one another for the person concealed within.

081224 1700 Why is Jesus so attractive as an Infant? Because of who He is, and because of the way He has chosen to show himself to us. The One whom every human and all religions try to touch is unknowable. The One who walked with Adam & Eve and spoke from Moses to the prophets is the Eternal Word and Son of the Father - tonight we celebrate his coming among us as a man, Jesus. He offers to fill us with the Holy Spirit, who is already at work in all people of good will.

God came to Earth as a human being in Jesus so as to veil his power and splendor and not overwhelm us. He reveals himself to us and reveals us to ourselves. He wants us to come to Him by free deliberate choice.

081221 0900 The way the world sees is different from the way God sees. Like King David, the Jewish people focused on their world and often didn't see what God wanted. Zechariah focused on his old age and doubted but Mary focused on God and said yes. God calls us to live fully but to trust in Him for all things at every moment, and no matter what happens He will use it to build up who we are becoming, more important than what we do. 081221 1230 The way the world sees is different from the way God sees. Jesus has come to carry out the Father's will by coming into our lives by Baptism. From moment to moment and day to day we must renew to Jesus our consent to do as He wills in our lives; so that we may resist our inclination to darkness and walk into his light. First novena: the pilgrimage of Joseph and Mary from Nazareth to Bethlehem - la 1ère neuvaine. 081219 The Lord is pleased to act with power and grace in the lives of those who know themselves to be weak, old, poor, or helpless. He sends angels only to a few in order to do great things for the whole people, but with most of us He expects us to use our faith to trust in Him. In our time we deal so much with tangible things that we can lose our ability to believe in what we cannot see. One way to grow in trust and faith in God is to give Him the credit for everything that we do and that happens in our lives.

081128 When Jesus speaks of the accomplishment of the end times prophecies in our lifetime rather than at the end of the world He underlines the importance for us and also for Him that we welcome the Father's will in us; so that the Father's saving love in Jesus may penetrate and transform us, and that in this way we may participate with Him in the accomplishment of the Father's will in people and in the world around us.

081112 We at times blame God for our ills and forget to thank Him for the countless blessings we enjoy. Paul calls us to behave well as children of God should in the eyes of the world for the honor and glory of God in people's eyes. Paul preached how useless it is to just try to obey laws and instructions, and how powerful and necessary it is rather for us to personally experience the love of God shown us in Jesus and respond to Him with gratitude. He allows us to be weak that He might be strong in us, and that we might come to truly know what He is like, and be able to say to those who don't, "No, God isn't like that!"

Jesus calls us to live differently from the rest of the world and behave well with love and kindness for the sake of the dignity of the Gospel. When ill, it makes no sense to ask for healing so we can go back to putting our trust in worldly things rather than in the Lord; so we ask the Lord to heal us that we might be unhindered in witnessing to Him, but if not, we accept to carry our illness and pain with trust in Him, that He will bring good things out of it for us and for others.

081109 0900 As we respond to Jesus' teaching to pray with the words of the Lord's Prayer, Jesus enters into the countless rooms in the castle of our soul - all our experiences and relationships - that He might become Our Lord in all of them.

081109 0900 God gave Moses a design for a meeting tent for God to dwell among his people, later replaced by a temple. In this way God prepared his people to accept that God would dwell in Jesus, who in turn revealed God's desire to dwell in us. 081109 1230 God gave Moses a design for a meeting tent for God to dwell among his people, later replaced by a temple. In this way God prepared his people to accept that God would dwell in Jesus, who in turn revealed God's desire to dwell in us.

081105 When I feel that I've lost my faith, have I really, or is it not precisely then that I begin to use my faith? When I feel close to God it is because his grace is carrying me. 081107 While limited by an inclination to look at everything from the single perspective of our flesh... effect of the original sin... God gives us a higher viewpoint to share with humanity.

The mystery of God hidden since the beginning has been revealed in Jesus yet continues to be hidden to humanity inasmuch as the world continues to be dominated by fear and greed. Jesus wants us to witness and let Him shine in us.

081021 Jesus brings together those near and far from each other and gives us unity in peace. He calls us to always be ready to give an account of our hope in Jesus. We can expect many won't be interested, but even Jesus often only had 10% success.

081019 1230 God is God, and we sometimes wonder what influence He is able to exercise in the world. When the Jews were set free from exile by the pagan emperor, people believed their gods only had power in their own country. It was new for a god to be powerful outside his people's country. Our current financial crisis could cause us to wonder about God's power in the world. Could it be that at times the stock market is a thermometer of greed? Giving to Caesar, paying taxes, can be not only a duty but an act of gratitude to God for the privilege of peace and civil services associated with my tax payments. I can remember brothers and sisters around the world who may have to pay taxes without enjoying the social benefits, like Catholic Palestinians in the Holy Land we met in 2000. Today is World Mission Sunday, and by prayer and our offerings we express solidarity with brothers and sisters worldwide, and it coincides here at St. Luke with our annual feast day and our Ministering to Ministers conference / retreat day. The Lord wants to stimulate our experience of freedom and generosity, and openness to living our faith together in community, through which we can come into the joy of God.

081005 1230 Like Pharisees I challenge God's authority by giving preference to my feelings, plans, desires, opinions. Like a loving parent, God does a lot for me and expects me to bear fruit. Time will run out, and the Father expects us to live life fully, not waste time worrying, ask for help when we need it, trust in God, and follow Jesus.  It is Jesus who presides the Mass; the priest stands among us as Jesus' "front man". We pray for those who are absent, but don't mention by name the needs of those who are present because Jesus is already taking to Himself each person present and all that is happening in our lives.

081005 0900 1 Like Pharisees I challenge God's authority by giving priority to my feelings, plans, desires, opinions. God has done a lot for me and like a vineyard expects me to bear fruit. The Father expects us to live life fully, not waste time worrying, ask for help when we need it, trust in God, and follow Jesus.  081005 0900 2 It is Jesus who presides the Mass, not the priest who stands among us as Jesus' "front man" . This is why we pray for those who are absent, but don't mention by name the needs of those who are present because Jesus is already taking to Himself each person present and all that is happening in our lives.

081001 Job's virtue was his faith, that he took everything that happened to him as coming from God, that God acts through events and through others. We learn from God and others to trust in Him. 081003 If only we could understand why God allows us to suffer and endure many things.... Perhaps there is a way, in considering how parents have children and send them out of the house knowing full well they will suffer, but do so because life is worth living and is in the end beautiful and worth the sufferings that accompany the goodness, beauty, and joy of life and love.

080930 Friends and family can intensify our pain... the evil one tempts one to end his own misery and another to strike back at others... this is not God's way and we must not rely or act on our feelings alone but on Jesus.

080910 Pagans see only here and now. In faith we enjoy life but in suffering trust in God to bring greater good out of it. We will soon join Him in eternal life.

080909 We pray, heal, but doubt God healed, and have trouble believing the invisible is real. Our culture calls evil good. We cannot remain in sin and be happy. Repentance precedes all healing from God.

Le Sacré-Coeur de Jésus - The Sacred Heart of Jesus

080530 Are you a husband who at times feels nagged by your wife, or father who feels disregarded by your children? Are you a wife or mother who sometimes feels unappreciated? Do you feel that priests can't understand you and for this reason should be married? I have news for you.... a priest stands in for Jesus our Bridegroom, which makes all of you the Church his Bride. We priests have hundreds of spouses and children and experience all that you do and then some. What is Jesus' answer? He beckons us not to pity or torment ourselves, but to come to Him. We expect others to fill our infinite desire and need for love when only God can satisfy our hearts. Jesus calls us to remain at all times open to his Sacred Heart, let Him love us, and then out of his overflowing love turn to others and accept to suffer, to endure them, out of love for them. Jesus goes ever before us.

6e dimanche du Temps Ordinaire  - 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time

080516 Jesus is the Father's Word He speaks to correct and purify us that we might then be able and willing to attach ourselves to God and love our enemies; thereby changing ourselves, and able to correct and discipline others respecting their freedom.

080514
As it was for Jesus and St. Paul the obstacles of life are occasions for us to dig deep for the willingness to accept the Father's love and do his will.

Saison de Pâques  - The Easter Season     top of page

Jesus shares with us the joy of his resurrection and victory over death - as I accept to receive the gift Jesus offers me of his life and love as the Bread of Life - He enables me to follow Him and proclaim his Easter joy with my life together with all those who believe in Him .

080510 1700 Intercessions and Eucharistic Prayer 080510 1700 Mothers' Day Blessing

080510 1700 Homily We try to convince God when we pray to give us good things, but the Father already wants to give the Holy Spirit. We must with his help remove obstacles and see with the heart, accept to be loved, to love, to forgive.

080510 1700 Confirmations The ritual of Confirmation given to four adults preparing for Marriage.

080509 Like Peter and Paul God calls us to keep some secrets but show something of our sins and faults to others in order to proclaim God's mercy and kindness to ourselves and also to them, to all of humanity.

080506 Eternal life is to know and believe in Jesus and his Father. As Eucharist Jesus is God's gift to us as the way, the truth, and the life. 080507 Like Jesus we must be led by the Holy Spirit to want only the Father's will, clearly distinguishing it from our own inclinations and impulses.

080504 0900 In the OT the Father sent the Word to speak to his people. The tent, temple, & tabernacle are patterns of his sanctuary in Heaven. Jesus and the Trinity are present to us in the Blessed Sacrament, but the mystery of God is too much for us to always keep in mind, but not to experience and taste.

080430 Like Paul we can take others to heart and not lose opportunities to ask Holy Spirit's power to proclaim Jesus. 080502 How Christian disciplines help us single out the voice of God among our many inner voices to proclaim Him to others.

6th Sunday of Easter - 6e Dimanche de Pâques   top of page

080426 1700 Jesus truly present in the Blessed Sacrament in the Tabernacle waits for us to wake up and experience God present in Him, in others, in the world, and respond in love.

080425 Jesus calls us to focus on Him not on our weakness; then He is freer to act in us and continue his Father's work.

080423 The Word of God touches and prunes away useless things and we become less preoccupied with those things. He does the same for others through us as we open our mouths and give voice to the Word of God and echo it to others.

080422 We taste the joy of Jesus and his disciples in facing trouble to do God's will. Telling what we see God doing in our lives and the world shatters the dark, breaks the silence with the light and sound of Good News.

5th Sunday of Easter - 5e Dimanche de Pâques   top of page

080420 0900 As disciples of Jesus we willingly as living stones let God make us a spiritual house with God in us. We offer our selves as spiritual sacrifices at each moment with trust in Jesus and He prompts us to do with Him the Father's works. 080420 1230 As disciples of Jesus we willingly as living stones let God make us a spiritual house with God in us. We offer our selves as spiritual sacrifices at each moment with trust in Jesus and He prompts us to do with Him the Father's works.

080416 Like the Apostles we become Church in Jesus in the joy of common resolution to know and do the Father's will. 080418 One season we love to pray and we feel God. Other times it's a great effort to do or want to. The key is the grace God puts in us of deep desire - desire for God, for love, beauty, goodness, and truth. Faith enables us to make the effort.

4th Sunday of Easter - 4e Dimanche de Pâques   top of page

080412 1700 Jesus Good Shepherd is like a good parent and trusts us to go out and live. Part of us follows other voices not trustworthy; so Jesus seeks out every human being to save us. 080413 1045 Dans ce monde déchu nous nous égarons mais Jésus le Bon Berger nous trouve.

080411 Jesus is the bridge to the Father. What seems to us a loss of our faith is actually a door opening us up to a deeper faith by accepting to walk in the dark trusting in God, who is most worthy of our trust.

080408 How is my life different knowing and loving Jesus and being fed by Him? By our simple faith in Him Jesus can still drive out demons. What is your experience?

0804006 0900 Jesus is ever present. When we reach out in faith and love to others our hearts burn within us and Jesus manifests Himself to us in mysterious ways that touch us deeply and personally, but we are not always aware of it at the time.

080404 Deeper than for food is our hunger for God.  Without words, we can pray by looking up to God with arms open like a child asking to be picked up, and our Father does pick us up in the spirit.  Whether we feel anything or not, we can receive the Father's love simply by dwelling in our hunger, our desire for God, for more life, for love, faith, and hope....

080402 We don't worry about the progress of our soul but trust in God - we are his work - and seek to know and do each day the will of the Father. We turn away from the shadow in our flesh of feeling prayer a burden and give our attention to pleasing God and keeping the three Divine Persons company.

Christ is risenAlleluia! Alleluia!

Divine Mercy Sunday - Dimanche de Miséricorde Divine   top of page

080330 1230 We need the Holy Spirit. Parents like God discipline faults to correct them and uproot bad habits. Divine Mercy in Jesus loves us and brings us to trust in God's tenderness as shown by Our Lady of Guadalupe in her words to Juan Diego.

080329 1700 Like Thomas we need the Holy Spirit. God's justice corrects our faults; while the Divine Mercy in Jesus loves us and brings us to trust in God's love, which is tenderness as shown by Our Lady of Guadalupe in her words to Juan Diego.

080328 Easter joy erupts from Jesus' awesome resurrection from death. Clinging to earthly ways like Pharisees stifles this joy. Jesus calls us to trust in his Father's love and mercy and allow Him to write divine life on our lives as on a scroll.

080326 In our mortal condition we are inclined to sin, but Jesus is our Saviour.  It is joy to turn to Him in repentance to confess our sins and receive his mercy and forgiveness.

Le Triduum Saint  - The Holy Triduum

Jesus freely gives his life as a ransom for us all from death - as I accept Jesus to carry my sins and suffering, He lifts me up to share in his resurrection and draws me into his banquet of Easter joy.

Easter Sunday - Dimanche de Pâques   top of page

080323 1230 That Jesus rose from the death of itself is worth celebrating even if it didn't change anything for us, but we want more than that. Jesus' closest apostles are men like us men - when they find nothing to do at the tomb they go home - but Mary Magdalene can't tear herself away from the place where Jesus' body had been. She is there when God's answer comes.  Our humanity is disintegrating and we are losing our ability to relate to others as people. The answer we seek is the one God the Father gave to his Son early Easter morning.  Jesus is the Lion of Judah and our Champion who clears a path for us through the pain and suffering of life and leads us to build with Him a culture of life and love.  RENEWAL of Baptismal promises (Jesus is preparing us for the resurrection when we will receive our body transformed into perpetual youth and vitality for communion with God.) .... SPRINKLING RITE and song.... PRAYERS of the Faithful....

Good Friday - Liturgy of the Lord's Passion - Vendredi Saint - Liturgie de la Passion du Seigneur

080321 Bilingual Liturgy and English Homily - Liturgie bilingue et homélie en anglais (l'abbé Michael donna l'homélie en français) Jesus sent up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to his Father, the One who had the power to save Him from death, and his prayer was heard, but He did not take away his pain, or his death. The Father prepared his answer and prepared Jesus to receive his answer through suffering.  When we send up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the One who can save us from death, He does not always take away our pain or death, and in time we will die. He is preparing us as He prepared Jesus to hear the Father, to receive the Father's will, and in trying to do the Father's will to be changed by the Father's will. Like Jesus, I become perfect when I die to my will and give way completely to the Father's holy will.

Holy Thursday - Mass of the Lord's Supper - Jeudi Saint - la Dernière Cène

080320 Bilingual Mass and Homily - Messe et homélie bilingues - When we remember the evil we have done, how can we go on with life and be happy?  Jesus makes Himself our Passover and establishes a bond of love with us that can never be broken. He initiates the gathering of his disciples as his Church and continues to send us priests out of love for us.  We owe Jesus reverence for this sacred mystery of Holy Orders and not try to manipulate it with worldly thinking; then perhaps more men will hear and respond to Jesus' call to follow Him, the Bridegroom of his Bride the Church and accept to be sent to love and serve her in his holy Name.

Le Carême  - Lent   top of page

Jesus invites us to enter into the desert of our own poverty, sinfulness, and fear, and the deserts of human life and society - where He shows himself to be with us - as I accept Jesus to carry my sins and suffering, He lifts me up to share in his resurrection and draws me into his Easter joy.

Let's enter the Triduum as the sinners we are; that Jesus may save us. If we are a Judas, He will offer us the grace to weep for our sins like Peter and come back to Him.

080315 1700 Jesus looks powerless on the Cross, but it is out of love for us and obedience to his Father that He freely accepts to suffer our sins, pain, and death to open a path for us to connect all the elements of our daily life with his.

080314 The Christian, like Jeremiah, must confront evil first within himself, herself, and then confront it in the world. We live in wonderful hope because Jesus is the Great Warrior at our side all our lives. He seemed crushed but rose again and defeated death and the fear of death by accepting to suffer our sins and rising again from the dead.  He is our hope.

We confess our sins to a priest to open our heart to Jesus and to meet Him. 080312 L'apparence est insuffisante; il faut vivre et adorer notre Dieu en esprit et vérité. Appearance is not enough; we must live and worship in spirit and truth. Holy Spirit show me my truth.

080309 0900 Life, death, health, illness, in each experience God waits to meet us. Prayer is lingering in his company so we can know and love Him. The Holy Spirit expands our spirit.

080307 From Lenten readings we see that God is interested in us in all our states and loves us; that we might love Him in return and come to find and recognize Him in others especially those in disguises of distressing human conditions and love Him in them.

4th Sunday in Lent - 4e dimanche du Carême   top of page

080301 1700 When we are caught in shadows of sin or pain Jesus beckons us to come back into the light. God sees our heart and like David calls us back to himself and to holiness.  Inner blindness is far worse than physical blindness. During Lent but even more so every moment of our lives Jesus asks us to respond to the word He speaks to us that we may have life.

3rd Sunday in Lent - 3e dimanche du Carême

080223 1700 We are caught in a contest of wills: mind vs God and Jesus offers us freedom to focus our inner being and energy on God's will and the meaning and purpose of our life while yet living in the world and doing all that is good and necessary to do.

080220 Jesus is too much for us but He is patient and draws us after Him. Jésus est trop exigeant mais patient. Il nous entraîne après Lui. 080222 We the Church are built on the faith of Peter. Violence forced the Church of the Middle Ages to use worldly power to defend society. 1929 freed the Pope to be only a spiritual head.

080215 There is no refuge in our good actions, only in He who gives us all we need so we can do the good. Love for Him motivates. Disclaimer about bilingualism - le bilinguisme ici. 080216 Funérailles - Dieu n'est pas cruel. La vie mortelle vs. l'âme immortelle. Gestes choisis et et souffrances acceptées forment l'âme. 080206 1930 Ash Wednesday - Mercredi des Cendres - Care for self is basic. Penance prunes excess self-absorption and strengthens caring love for others.

080206 1830 Talk to Meditators - On Prayer - Why pray? Why different forms of prayer? How not to bore myself to death at Mass. Why confess my sins to the Lord through a priest? How to commune, contemplate our intimate God. Intimacy with God in Jesus and contemplation - ever ready to meet Jesus passively in contemplation and actively in loving our neighbour. Contemplating Jesus with Mary in the mysteries of the Rosary. Why meditate? The Father is preparing us for eternity through such experiences as just being together like an elderly couple, the communion of holy widows with their beloved deceased husband, contemplating others and the Trinity. This is rehearsing for eternal life so we can "take it" being in communion with the three divine Persons all the time, because Heaven will be fairly "intense"; so we need to get used to it now.  Mothers are close to God because of giving of themselves all day long day after day.  God has a great love for mothers and fathers.

4th Sunday in a series of 4: stewardship of treasure and send-off

The world organizes human business by giving the priority to profit, even to the detriment of life and of people; such that life itself and human beings are reduced to simple commodities to be bartered. For his part, the Creator values life and human persons above everything and provides the Earth with an extravagant abundance of goods given as a heritage in equal measure to all of humanity. He leaves us free to take on the stewardship of it all for the common good and for his glory.

080203 1230 God our Father has compassion when He sees us poor and helpless and offers us in Jesus fullness and freedom with time, talent, and treasure. 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time - homily text - Conclusion of our Discipleship and Stewardship series and looking ahead to the season of Lent.

080201 The Kingdom of God is small like a mustard seed hidden inside people until the Word of God grows in them, in us, and we begin to desire to please Him.  Then the Kingdom becomes visible in how we live as we follow Jesus.
080130 How to know God's will and what can get in the way.
Following Jesus draws criticisms. Jesus calls us to endure it for love and for his sake.

Jésus: "Viens travailler à ma Vigne" 080127 1230 God gives us talent to help Him shape the world. We become and discover ourselves in our work. Jesus invites us to labor in his vineyard of the Kingdom.

Jesus invites us to labor in his vineyard of the Kingdom.

080125 Religions seek God or try to appease God. Jesus stops Saul in his tracks and Saul comes to know Him personally and he is born again, a new life begins with intimacy in God. Jesus calls us to the same new life in Him.
We have in us the fussy Pharisee and David ever ready to do God's will. As we try them on for size, they call us to conversion.
Jesus is the new wine stretching us wine skins. God delights in us when we are docile to the Holy Spirit like David.

2nd Sunday in a series of 4: stewardship of time

In a way time remains ever wild, and many experiences of time can hurt us; still we are called to befriend it and become good stewards of it, and then it becomes a blessing.

080120 1230 Too often we feel victimized by time. Here is our Father's solution: He, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit offer to walk with us through our experience of time to transform us into stewards of the precious gift of time.
080119 1700 Too often we feel victimized by time. Here is our Father's solution: He, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit offer to walk with us through our experience of time to transform us into stewards of the precious gift of time. 080120 0900 Too often we feel victimized by time. Here is our Father's solution: He, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit offer to walk with us through our experience of time to transform us into stewards of the precious gift of time.

080118 Our human condition is unwillingness to have God as Lord over us, as opposed to saying something like: "Father, I trust in your love for me. If You prefer not to change this, be with me and help me through this."
080116 Like Samuel we need to learn to hear the Lord. God wants us to love Him not his power so we'll be happy as children loving their parents.
We too wrestle quietly with God's will. God lets us wait for a kind purpose.

Le Baptême du Seigneur  - The Baptism of the Lord

Disciples & Stewards - Disciples et Intendants

# 1 of 4     -     no. 1 de 4

1st Sunday in a series of 4: discipleship

The Father calls us to become so fully human that we love Him by following, knowing, and loving Jesus, and growing into a love that embraces all human beings, however distressing may be their appearance to us.

1 d'une série de 4 080113 1230 In Baptism Jesus restores our innocence lost by Adam and Eve acting on opinion instead of God's will. Our danger is still to govern ourselves by our own opinion. Recording accidentally interrupted at this point.....
080112 1700 Baptism of Jesus - God wants to delight in us and calls us to become fully human by following Jesus and doing the Father's will, even when to do so seems shocking as in some incidents in the Old Testament. 080113 0900 My opinion isolates me. Doing God's will frees me to become fully human and let God delight in me as in Jesus. Baptism restores our innocence lost by Adam and Eve and confession frees me from sticky sins.

080112 1000 am When did you last look at someone with such love you wanted to take them into yourself and pour yourself into them? Jesus looks at us in this way. 080112 1015 am Blessing of Catholic Women's League Officers at the St. Luke Parish Council level. All Catholic women are called to the CWL and be blessed as members.

In Jesus God the Father calls us to choose to live joy despite all the troubles and decadence all around us.  E.g. Dr. Patch Adams

When God lets us wait it is to make more room in us for Him and his gifts. 080109 Sin and fear hinder our response. God offers Jesus' love as a remedy.

080106 1230 Epiphany Jesus as the Father's gift to humanity is God's response to the desire He put in us for God, truth, goodness, beauty, and fullness of life.

080104 Friday evening 8:00 pm "How Can I Be Sure of My Faith?" Alpha talk to World Youth Day (WYD) 2008 pilgrims on retreat at Camp Kinkora in spiritual preparation for their pilgrimage to Sydney, Australia.

080104 There can be no true joy at Christmas without realizing that I as a sinner need Jesus. Christians are accused of inventing guilt and imposing it on people. One who testifies to the existence of sin does not cause the guilt of the sinner just as the one who cries "Fire!" does not cause fire but merely points to smoke rising from a real fire.

Merry Christmas and Happy, Healthy, and Holy New Year!
